GAAP2 provides a platform for developing and piloting a project-level version of the Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index, or pro-WEAI, which will consist of a refined, tested, minimal set of core indicators of women’s empowerment in agriculture, accompanied by additional modules adaptable to the needs of specific projects.
The pro-WEAI survey modules were developed after consultation with projects at the GAAP2 inception workshop in January 2016. The team also developed one version of the pro-WEAI that is suitable for livestock interventions, as well as add-on survey modules with empowerment measures specifically for projects with nutrition goals.
Each project is currently piloting the draft pro-WEAI in its (baseline) data collection. Complementary qualitative research by each project will help validate pro-WEAI and add nuance to the findings. GAAP2 will share information about pro-WEAI modules, including best practices from the field once the survey is validated.
